Blood pressure medication and your oral health

If you are taking blood pressure medication you are not alone.  A significant number of our patients do.  Like many medications, it can have certain side effects, one of which is dry mouth.  Saliva is a natural cleanser, so a decrease can actually cause cavities. There are things you can do to deal with this.  It is very important to have a dental exam and cleaning at least every 6 months.  Dr. Dersh will check for cavities, especially at the gum line.  We can also recommend rinses and gum to use on a daily basis.

If you are experiencing dry mouth, or any other oral condition and have questions, please don’t hesitate to call!
